Artist Statement
While I am a visual storyteller, I also like my work to have some humor.
Using an object or theme that I find interesting,
I create a story around it. Sometimes the object itself becomes the story, but usually I use it as the backdrop.
With that in mind, the human figure has always held the deepest interest for me, and over the decades my renditions of it have simplified as I focus on body language as a vehicle.
And, because the viewer determines the sex of the figures, it is the
viewer who creates the meaning behind the interactions of the people. These gender-neutral
figures reflect the viewer's personality, thoughts and memories, thus representing
the viewer's perceptions of the scene. Therefore, when one is interpreting
the figures, one is looking at oneself.
